In February, Jessica stumbled upon an unexpected and fragile creature in her backyard—a completely bald, tiny squirrel weighing no more than 40 grams. The poor animal was cold, unconscious, and unable to open its eyes. Jessica’s heart went out to the little one, and she decided to step in and help.

After finding that no animal shelters had room for the helpless squirrel, Jessica took it in herself. She carefully set up a box for it, feeding it every two hours with an eyedropper. The first night was the hardest, but both Jessica and the little squirrel, whom she named Stevie, made it through.

The girl quickly realized that Stevie was a squirrel who had most likely fallen from a hollow or been taken by a predator—evident from the tiny body and the partial loss of his tail.

As Stevie grew stronger and larger, Jessica made sure his home kept up with his needs. What started as a small box turned into a beautiful mini-house with multiple levels, climbing spaces, and a feeder. Stevie loved his new outdoor home, enjoying the freedom and comfort Jessica had provided.
