We all know that the life expectancy of pets, especially dogs and cats, is often quite short. So, what do we do when the beloved companion we’ve cared for is nearing the end of their journey?

The touching story of Henry, a 16-year-old dog, and Zack Schou, co-founder of Marleys Mutts and the Pawsitive Change initiative, is a perfect example of compassion and dedication.

A Remarkable Act of Kindness. 🐾💕

It all started when Zack visited a shelter in Tehachapi and met Henry, an elderly dog struggling with age and health issues. Henry was 16 years old, a senior by dog standards, and had lived in difficult shelter conditions for too long. His fur had lost its shine, and his movements were slow, but most heartbreaking was the fact that no one had adopted him.

Zack couldn’t bear to see Henry’s life end like this. So, he made a heartfelt decision to adopt him, give him a loving home, and ensure that he would have a peaceful, joyful final chapter of his life.

In March 2021, Zack took Henry out of the shelter and brought him straight to the vet. The diagnosis wasn’t good—Henry was weak, old, and battling testicular cancer. Surgery was quickly performed, and despite his frail condition, Henry proved to be a fighter.

Despite his physical limitations, Henry found the strength to walk in the garden and even help people. Zack was amazed at Henry’s resilience and how he seemed to grow stronger each day.

Although Zack had grown attached to Henry, he still wanted the dog to have the best possible future. Zack’s story spread, and soon a compassionate woman reached out, offering Henry a new home filled with love and care.

Now in his new home, Henry quickly bonded with his new mom. He was lively and joyful, always surrounded by affection. His new mother shares photos of him often, showing just how loved he truly is.

Adopting senior dogs is such a blessing. They are incredibly loving and grateful for the chance to experience the love and care they deserve in their final years. 🙏💕
